Many seniors have let their drivers license expire.  They might not even be aware that their license is expired.   Getting a license again might be much more difficult than simply renewing.  And some senior spouses even take the drastic step of throwing away their spouses driver license just to keep him/her from getting behing the wheel.  Hiring a companion driver in this case will be the best option.  Eventually they will come to prefer being driven around and not having to deal with the stress of driving.
